Egmond aan den Hoef is one of the three ‘Egmonds’ and together they form Egmond, which traditionally was a fishing village. This fishermen nostalgia is a central theme in the attractive village of Egmond. Nearby are the picturesque village of Bergen and the city of Alkmaar. From Alkmaar it is easy to take the train to cities like Amsterdam, Hoorn, Enkhuizen and Medemblik.
Egmond aan den Hoef
When you walk through the centre of the village of Egmond aan den Hoef, you come across the ruins of the castle of Lamoraal van Egmond. This castle was destroyed in 1573 by order of William of Orange. In the distance you can see a number of fine Haubergs which are characteristic of Noord-Holland. After having explored Egmond aan den Hoef, you can relax at one of the cosy outdoor cafés
In Egmond there is something to suit everyone. Here you can enjoy a romantic drink with your loved one on a lovely summer’s day by the sea, or you can take a quick dip in the sea with the children. In the nearby city of Alkmaar you can meet the men of the cheese in the summer months and do some shopping.
